UN-P

UN-P is a coined term derived from the words ‘UN(IM)PERFECT’… imperfect, unfinished, and ‘UNPRECEDENTED’… unprecedented, exceptional, unheard of, novel, unparalleled. The pronunciation is ‘amp.’ It embodies the meaning of ‘UNPERFECT ART’—imperfect art, and ‘UNPRECEDENTED ART’—exceptional or unprecedented art. Additionally, inspired by music, the name also carries the meaning of an amplifier, symbolizing the amplification of sound, and reflecting our intention to expand connections through art.

OUR STORY

When I discovered that my daughter, who would become the founder of our brand, had a disability, it was the first time I deeply considered the concept of ‘human imperfection.’ At first, I felt confused, but as I faced the situation alongside her, I realized that perfection is not a condition for happiness. I came to understand that thinking positively and acting on the belief that ‘imperfection still holds value’ and ‘there is always room for growth’ is the true richness of life.

This realization had a profound impact on my creative work. Whether in furniture, space design, or calligraphy, I began to want to infuse ‘the beauty that arises from imperfection’ into each form of expression. The natural variations in wood grain, the distortions born from handcraft, and the subtle shifts of each brushstroke – these are not flaws, but individuality, character, and proof of a unique existence.

Furthermore, I recognized that no human being is perfect. Through our work, we want to convey the ‘value of imperfection,’ creating pieces that inspire users and viewers to feel that ‘it’s okay not to be perfect.’ We aim to create works that offer a mental space, a breath of fresh air. It was the lessons my daughter taught me that led to the establishment of this brand, and we hope to share this message with others, particularly those in similar situations.

VISION

Our vision is to create a society where everyone can live authentically by proposing the beauty that resides in imperfection through furniture, space design, and art. There is beauty and potential that can only be felt in the unfinished, and in these incomplete creations, there is room for growth, leaving space for imagination, unique interpretations, and interactions. Similarly, people do not need to be perfect; each individual holds value in their own form. Through our creations, we aim to expand people’s perspectives, creating spaces and lives where it is okay to be imperfect, and ultimately fostering a more tolerant and richer society where imperfection is naturally embraced.

We aim to spread the beauty that resides in imperfection through art, delivering its power to children with disabilities. Even if something is not perfect, each piece has its own unique brilliance. Through art, we provide a space where children with disabilities can express themselves, and we strive to create a society where everyone feels beautiful just as they are. It’s okay not to be perfect.’ The works created with this sentiment bring warmth and courage to everyday life, empowering children to live with confidence. Through art, we aim to create a future where everyone can express themselves freely and authentically.

CRAFTSMANSHIP

Each piece is meticulously crafted by artisans and artists, who bring out the unique characteristics and textures of the materials, often combining different materials to create something new. These creations are designed and made with a free-spirited approach, sometimes without formal plans or drawings, transcending the constraints of time. Inspired by a wide range of art and culture, including painting, calligraphy, fashion, and architecture, from the artist’ s experience studying in Paris, each piece is created with a dedication and belief that is raw yet nostalgic, fresh, and more akin to a work of art than a mere product, setting it apart from mass-produced, automated environments. Just as there is no such thing as a perfect day or a perfect person, we believe that it is in imperfection where true beauty lies. Our goal is to create objects that can be cherished, appreciating the beauty that comes from what is missing.

UN-P

Our logo features the Japanese tree frog (Dryophytes japonicus), a species native to Japan. This frog is considered a symbol of good fortune, prosperity, fertility, and happiness in Japanese culture.Additionally, its transformation from a tadpole to a frog—an entirely different appearance—symbolizes “rebirth” and “change.” Inspired by this concept, we embrace the idea of reimagining materials that have reached the end of their original purpose or have yet to be valued, giving them new life and meaning through our creations.
